Six Youths Detained in Lira After Alleged Gang Rape of 20-Year-Old Woman

Police in Lira City arrested six young men to assist with probes into the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old resident. The incident took place on May 2, 2026, around 1:00 am in Owiti Cell, Amuca Ward, Lira City West Division.

The victim, from nearby Aminyanga Cell, was heading home with three friends after visiting Grand Paradise Hotel on the Lira-Kamdini Highway when they were ambushed. Survivor Naume Aceng reported that over 10 unidentified men attacked the group. She and another friend escaped after fighting back, but the assailants dragged the victim into a bush where seven of them allegedly assaulted her.

The suspects in custody include Stanley Ogwang, Joshua Odok, Emmanuel Ocaya, and Emmy Mule, all 20 years old, plus two juveniles. North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the arrests and detailed the investigation steps.

Medical exams on the victim are complete, the crime scene has been documented by SOCO officers, and forensic evidence collected. Police are actively pursuing the four remaining suspects.
