Buganda Kingdom has outlined key priorities for Uganda’s new political term, emphasizing integrity, justice, and development. Speaking at the Buganda Lukiiko 2026 in Bulange Mengo, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga stressed that anti-corruption efforts must be impartial, without shielding powerful figures while ordinary people suffer.

Mayiga called for upholding human rights and transparent justice, especially during political tensions. He demanded that those arrested during elections be tried or released promptly and condemned abductions as unacceptable, insisting on lawful handling of offenders.

On infrastructure, he highlighted poor roads in high-population economic hubs, unreliable power, and water supply as major growth barriers. Priorities should favor busy areas to support trade and progress.

The kingdom’s Situla Omutindo plan aims to enhance productivity in agriculture through modern farming, expand trade via the Buganda Chamber of Commerce, improve early childhood education, advance health, and empower youth.

Mayiga advocated for organized urban spaces for informal vendors, suggesting licensed, hygienic markets could boost incomes, sanitation, tourism, and revenue. He also urged using tax collections, like fuel taxes, for real societal needs and protecting Buganda’s development initiatives.

He praised the record 130,000 participants in the 2026 Kabaka Birthday Run and affirmed Kabaka’s ongoing engagement with his people.
