Entebbe Club Overpowers Limuru in Thrilling Migingo Skirmishes at Home

Entebbe Club leveraged home advantage to defeat Kenya's Limuru Golf Club by five points in the I&M Bank-sponsored Migingo Skirmishes, winning 15 matches and drawing three in the Katogo section. The victory avenged a heavy loss in Nairobi in 2024, with standout performances from pairs like Josephine Njoroge and Grace Mayiani. Entebbe Club celebrated a dominant win over Limuru Golf Club from Kenya during the Migingo Skirmishes tournament at their par-71 course on Saturday. Playing in match-play format, Entebbe secured victory by five points, thanks to strong showings in the Katogo Golf section.

The home team won 15 of 28 contests and squared three others. Katogo captain Elly ‘Sober’ Mukasa, receiving the trophy from I&M Bank Group Regional CEO Kihara Maina, beamed with pride: “We have over 200 Katogo members who came today and we won it fair and square.”

Highlight wins included Josephine Njoroge and Grace Mayiani crushing Limuru captain Dan Lubanga and George Nganda 8&7 on the par-5 11th hole. Innocent Kihika and Morris Ongwech also shone, beating Onesmus Kiama and Gerald Cheruiyot 7&5.

Mukasa noted the revenge factor after Limuru’s big win in Nairobi in 2024 and hinted at Limuru’s players being fatigued from pre-event parties. Limuru managed 10 wins with their 69-strong contingent, but it wasn’t enough. Former Limuru captain James Githinji emphasized golf’s community role and urged Uganda’s golf union to promote the sport in schools.

I&M Bank, which initiated the event, highlighted its commitment to long-term value through such cross-border ties. Uganda CEO Robin Bairstow announced an upcoming leg in South Africa this September. The bank reported strong growth, including 42% deposit increases to over Shs1 trillion in Uganda.

Final Points: Katogo (Entebbe): 16.5; Limuru & Ambassadors: 11.5.

Selected results featured Michael Sekadde & Jackson Were (5&3), Daniel Muwooya & Mathias Zungu (4&2), and draws like Jacob Byamukama & Peter Kagumya vs. Kihara Maina & Patrick Kinyanjui.

Individual stableford winners included Twinemanzi Tumubweine (35 pts, Group A), Andrew Koech (41 pts, Group B), and ladies’ standouts Peace Kabasweka (36 pts, Group A) and Esther Aganyira (35 pts, Group B). Nearest to pin: Arthur Gwaku (men), Julia Joan Nampeewo (ladies); longest drive: Jerry Owachi (men), Peace Hellen (ladies).
