Police in Iganga launched an intelligence-driven operation against criminal networks dealing in counterfeit dollars, leading to the arrest of three suspects accused of aggravated robbery.

Busoga North Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha named the detained individuals as 19-year-old Asuman Isooba (alias Mazima), 29-year-old Aminsi Isooba, and 25-year-old Syrus Guule, all from Namungalwe Village in Namungalwe Town Council. They were apprehended in areas including Kisinze, Kawete, and Namungalwe Town Council.

The gang allegedly tricked victims into exchanging fake dollars and then robbed them of their money. The arrests stemmed from a March 6, 2026, incident where Kampala businessman Dismas Akampulira, 26, lost Shs13 million in Namungalwe Town Council.

A district crime intelligence team tracked down the suspects, including Mohammad Nalugoda, who confessed and helped locate the others. On May 2, 2026, around midday, police caught them in Namungalwe Village as they prepared another crime.

The suspects are held at Iganga Central Police Station pending further investigation. Kasadha urged businesses and the public to stay alert against conmen offering fake US dollars.
