Authorities in Kaliro district’s Busoga North region have launched a manhunt for Afuwa Namugwano, the prime suspect in the murder of her two-year-old stepson, Rahim Kivuluga.

The ordeal began when Rahim’s father, Awali Balikowa, grew worried about his son’s whereabouts. Namugwano claimed the boy had stayed overnight at a distant relative’s place, but she slipped away from home under cover of night, sparking suspicions.

Balikowa alerted their local LC I chairperson, Swaibu Gabudyeli, who mobilized community efforts. Announcements were broadcast on three radios in Bukamba sub-county’s trading centers, but yielded no results. Police were then informed, deploying a canine unit to scour the village.

The sniffer dog led searchers to a man-made well behind the family home, where Rahim’s body was recovered. OC CID Marble Tweheyo of Kaliro central police station revealed preliminary findings point to strangulation before the child was thrown into the well.

Namugwano remains at large as tracing efforts continue. The body has been moved to Bumanya health center IV mortuary for postmortem examination.
