Police in Kyenjojo district apprehended Richard Mwesige, a 40-year-old resident also nicknamed ‘Baby Nsolo’, on Saturday, May 2, in Kihara Cell, Kyarusozi town council. The arrest stems from the suspected killing of his 35-year-old wife, Lukia Karungi.

Karungi, who lived with Mwesige and shared a child with him, had been missing for around six weeks. Local LC I chairperson Asaaba Aheebwa alerted Kyarusozi police station about her absence and the man’s odd behavior.

A search of the suspect’s home uncovered shocking evidence: a human head in a polythene bag suspended from the roof, along with bones and clothing linked to the victim. Rwenzori West regional police spokesperson Vincent Twesige confirmed the decomposing remains.

The body parts are now at Kyenjojo General Hospital undergoing DNA testing and postmortem to verify identity and determine the cause of death. Investigations continue into the murder circumstances.
