Namilyango College faced high-stakes matches in rugby and hockey during the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games hosted at their Mukono grounds. The weekend brought intense competition, with fixture updates adding extra tension to the encounters.

In rugby, Namilyango hosted Makerere College (Macos) after both had advanced past earlier rounds. Despite a previous 30-10 defeat to Macos in the Central Schools Rugby League final, Namilyango started strong with an early penalty from Ambrose Ssebalijja. Titus Nyonyintono’s penalties and a try sealed a 20-3 win, showcasing improved defense.

Coach Ambrose Kakuru praised the defensive efforts, noting the team had trained specifically to address past weaknesses. He embraced the pressure of hosting, stating, ‘We live for the pressure,’ and affirmed readiness for quarterfinals against Ntare School on Tuesday, regardless of schedule changes.

The hockey team, coached by Jordan Michael Mpiima, needed a win over rivals St. Mary’s College Kisubi (Smack) to secure a top-two spot in Boys’ Group B after a mixed weekend. They dominated but settled for a 0-0 draw, finishing third yet qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams for the quarterfinals.

Mpiima expressed disappointment over the missed win but remains focused on motivating the side for the knockouts. Other results included Kyaddondo SS’s strong showings and Budo’s advances.
