Charles Odere silenced his critics on the golf course, securing the top spot in the Challengers Golf Quarterly Mug at Lake Victoria Serena Resort & Spa in Kigo. Competing against 67 others on the par-72 layout, the handicap 11 player posted a strong 70 nett, despite double-bogeys on holes 2 and 16. He notched 10 pars and a birdie on the 18th.
The tournament highlighted celebrations for Marvin Kagoro and Richard Oluka’s golden jubilees. Challengers Golf, an elite social group from Entebbe Club and Uganda Golf Club, organized the event under chairman Dennis Kahindi. Emcee Moses Ssebugwawo kept the crowd laughing, joking about the birthday boys’ 1976 birth year coinciding with the first Ebola outbreak and quipping about aging woes.
Kagoro, who started golfing in 2011, credited the group with transforming his life, performing a Commodores tune in thanks. Friend Oscar Semawere shared light-hearted anecdotes, while emotional video messages from families moved both honorees. Oluka, an aviation captain, spoke humbly about the rare public address.
Edgar Muzahura finished second with 73 nett, followed by Patrick Ndase and Samson Agamire at 76 nett. Guest winner was Henry Nsubuga with 65 nett.
