Residents of Amolatar District are reeling from the tragic death of Kenneth Odon, a Senior One student at Kangai Senior Secondary School in Dokolo District. The incident occurred on May 3, 2026, around 2:00 a.m. at a local disco, where Odon, from Abedober Village in Arwotcek Sub-county, was stabbed by unidentified attackers during a dispute over a girl.
Odon had just returned home for the first term holidays. His friend, 21-year-old Tonny Okot, sustained serious injuries and is being treated at Amolatar Health Centre IV.
Moses Aboko, the LC3 chairperson-elect of Arwotcek Sub-county, was among the first at the scene near his home. “I heard an alarm, rushed over, and found one person dead and another needing help,” he recounted. Police from Amolatar Central Police Station arrived promptly, documented the site, and transported the victims.
The student’s grandfather, Sam Nyang, mourned the loss of his disciplined grandson, blaming bad influences from peers. Amolatar District Deputy Resident District Commissioner Magwar Obonyo confirmed five suspects are in custody to aid the probe.
Obonyo urged parents to keep children away from night discos and called on local leaders to regulate such events for better security. This comes amid national homicide statistics showing 4,238 cases in 2025, down slightly from 4,329 in 2024.
