A devastating road accident in northern Uganda’s Nwoya district resulted in six fatalities and 14 serious injuries. The collision happened around 1:00 a.m. on Monday at Lapok Mor Cell in Purongo town council along the Karuma-Pakwach highway.

The Nile Star bus, en route from Koboko with a stop in Arua before departing at 9:00 p.m., reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with an oncoming trailer truck headed to Pakwach. The bus driver and two passengers perished instantly at the scene.

Initial reports noted three deaths, but Nwoya Resident District Commissioner Christopher Omara updated the toll to six. The injured are receiving care at Anaka General Hospital, with some transferred to St Mary’s Hospital Lacor.

Nile Star quickly sent rescue teams overnight and Monday morning to aid victims and help families reach the site and hospitals. Police investigations continue, pointing to speeding as a key factor.
