A devastating collision on the Pakwach-Olwiyo-Karuma Highway in Purongo Town Council, Nwoya District, has left six people dead and multiple others injured.

The accident happened around 2am when a Nile Star Bus (UBP 736U), carrying 67 passengers from Arua to Kampala, smashed into a trailer lorry (SSD 498C) loaded with fish heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nwoya Resident District Commissioner Christopher Omara confirmed six fatalities by Monday morning, with 14 injured individuals admitted to Anaka General Hospital. Plans are in place to transfer some to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu City.

Nwoya LC5 Chairperson Emmanuel Orach called the scene gruesome, while Omara pointed to reckless driving as the cause. A Nile Star Bus manager, speaking anonymously, reported four deaths on the spot and 13 injuries, with the rest continuing to Kampala on a replacement bus. Some injured were taken to Kiryandongo Hospital.

Aswa West Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong verified the crash but noted limited details at the time.
