US President Donald Trump revealed plans for the United States to help free commercial ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil trade. The operation, set to launch on Monday, targets vessels and crews facing shortages of food and supplies due to over two months of Iranian blockades.

In a Truth Social post, Trump stated that the US has assured affected nations it will guide their ships safely through the restricted waters. The US Central Command will deploy 15,000 personnel, over 100 aircraft, warships, and drones to restore navigation freedom while upholding the naval blockade on Iran.

CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper emphasized the mission’s role in bolstering regional security and the global economy. The effort blends diplomatic outreach with military support, though specifics on participating countries remain unclear.

Tensions escalated soon after Trump’s announcement when the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported a tanker hit by unknown projectiles 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah, UAE. All crew members were safe, but the incident underscores ongoing risks, with Iran having fired on vessels and seized others.

Meanwhile, diplomatic channels stir as Iranian media claims Tehran is reviewing a US response to its 14-point peace proposal, delivered via Pakistan. The proposal seeks US troop withdrawals, blockade lifts, and sanctions relief, clashing with Washington’s demands for nuclear curbs. Trump has hinted at rejection but noted talks are progressing well.

The Strait blockade has disrupted 20% of global oil and gas flows, driving up energy prices and pressuring Trump ahead of US midterm elections.
