Uganda Police Flying Squad Unit arrested a suspected serial kidnapper on May 4 in Nankulabye Zone 7, Kampala, after complaints surfaced at Old Kampala and Wandegeya stations about child abductions.

The suspect targeted young boys in busy areas of Kasubi, Nankulabye, Makerere, and Kawempe divisions. Victims include 5-year-old Ethan Kasirye from Nankulabye Zone 7, 6-year-old Joram Kalenzi Yosam from Kasubi Zone 1, and 5-year-old Ramathan Kibira from Makerere.

Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke detailed how the suspect used tactics to grab the children, transport them elsewhere, and demand ransom. Interrogation revealed confessions to the crimes between April 28 and May 2.

Kalenzi was taken on April 28 from Kasubi and left in Njeru near Jinja bridge after no payment. Kasirye, abducted April 30 from Nankulabye, was abandoned in Lira, with Lira authorities aiding his return. Kibira, kidnapped May 2 from Makerere, was released in Kalerwe on May 3 after his mother paid Shs40,000 ransom.

Kalenzi and Kibira are safe, while Kasirye’s reunion is being arranged. Rusoke noted ongoing probes into possible accomplices and called for parental vigilance.
