Godfrey Sekisonge, a Ugandan national based in the United Kingdom, has entered the race for a borough council seat representing Barking Riverside ward. Running on the Green Party ticket, he joins two other candidates—Victoria Hornby and Mizanur Rahman—in competing for three seats against 14 contenders in total.
Sekisonge also serves as deputy to the Kabaka’s representative in the UK. He chose the Green Party due to its commitment to social justice, environmental care, and equality, following a rigorous selection process involving local party engagement.
The elections, set for May 7, will see London voters across 32 boroughs elect councillors to manage key services including housing, education, waste collection, and local taxes. These polls are viewed as a gauge of broader political trends.
“I bring real-life experience and a passion for change,” Sekisonge stated, highlighting his daily interactions with residents. He sees his candidacy as a milestone for representation, demonstrating that individuals from diverse backgrounds can lead and bridge cultures.
