A security guard stationed at LT Energy Pump fuel station in Gulu City’s Bardege-Layibi division was fatally shot by helmeted gunmen on Tuesday evening around 9:30 p.m.

Ronald Obedi, employed by Samurai Security Protective Services Uganda Ltd, was on duty in Keyi B Cell, Kasubi Ward, Laliya trading centre when attackers ambushed him. Eyewitnesses reported the assailants had hidden on the premises before firing two bullets that hit Obedi in the head and stomach, killing him instantly.

Pastor Michael Ojok, who was nearby buying sodas, saw the two men emerge from behind the administration block. The gunmen then fired at him and another pedestrian, who sustained a chest wound. Ojok escaped unharmed.

The attackers made off with Obedi’s firearm, cash, and other items from the station, though the exact value remains undetermined. Station management refused to comment.

Deputy Resident City Commissioner Kamba Amiri confirmed the robbery, noting security forces are pursuing suspects via CCTV review. He highlighted vulnerabilities in single-guard deployments at risky sites and anticipates arrests soon.

Obedi’s body is at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. This marks the second such incident in the division within days, following a motorcycle robbery on May 2.
