King’s College Budo is chasing a fourth consecutive boys’ rugby title at the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games I in Mukono. The games are hosted by Seroma Christian High School, but rugby and hockey matches are taking place at rival Namilyango College, creating an electric atmosphere.

In Tuesday’s rugby quarterfinals, Budo overcame an early converted try from Busoga College Mwiri to secure a dominant 33-7 victory. Coach Brian Makalama called it a wake-up moment for his team, while captain Calvin Mubiru highlighted fixing errors ahead of the semis against Jinja SS.

Namilyango College thrilled their home crowd with a 69-0 thrashing of Ntare School. Coach Ambrose Kakuru anticipates a tough semifinal clash with St. Mary’s College Kisubi (Smack), who edged Mbarara High 13-10. Smack’s coach Alvin Nkamba praised his team’s mental resilience.

Shifting to boys’ hockey, Mbarara High School, last year’s champions, beat St. Charles Lwanga Kasasa 2-0 and will face Kakungulu Memorial in the semis—a rematch of the previous final. Budo advanced past Smack 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw, setting up a semifinal against Ntare, who upset Namilyango 3-0.

Girls’ hockey semis feature Kakungulu vs. Sacred Heart Mushanga and Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga vs. Gayaza HS.
