Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that his team has lost control of the Premier League title race following a dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton.
With 71 points from 34 matches, City now trail Arsenal by five points but hold a game in hand. The chaotic encounter at Goodison Park saw Everton capitalize on a defensive mistake by Marc Guehi to fight back.
Guardiola reflected, ‘It’s now not in our hands, before it was, now no,’ highlighting the shift after the draw. He noted four remaining league games, expecting tough battles ahead.
Jeremy Doku netted twice, including a 97th-minute equalizer, while Erling Haaland scored in the 83rd minute to pull one back. Doku expressed frustration but optimism, saying, ‘There’s still a lot of games to go and anything can happen.’ Haaland echoed this, insisting, ‘We’re still in it.’
City’s next fixtures include Brentford, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa. Arsenal face an easier run-in against West Ham, Burnley, and Palace.
Despite the setback, City remain in contention for a domestic treble after winning the League Cup and advancing to the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 16.
