Nation Media Group Uganda (NMG) is renewing its commitment to road safety campaigns by participating in the upcoming Automotive Show.
This year marks the fifth consecutive year NMG will join the event, scheduled for July 17th to 19th at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The company aims to leverage its various media platforms, including Daily Monitor, NTV, Spark TV, and its radio stations, to amplify road safety messages.
The Automotive Show is being organized in partnership with the Ministry of Works and Transport, alongside financial institutions and automotive dealers. A key component will involve road drives and the testing of vehicles to encourage the use of safer automobiles.
In parallel, the Ministry of Works and Transport is set to introduce crash site assessors. These professionals will be tasked with evaluating damages and recommending compensation for victims of road accidents, aiming to ensure accountability and support for those affected.
According to Mr. Winston Katushabe, Chief Licensing Officer at the Ministry, these assessors will investigate incidents, gather evidence for legal proceedings, and help determine compensation based on factors like lost income. This measure is intended to deter the use of unsafe vehicles that contribute to accidents.
The Ministry is also finalizing a new law that will be accompanied by public and judicial sensitization efforts to bolster road safety across the country.
