Kawempe Muslim, three-time FEASSSA champions, crashed out of contention for this year’s regional games in Tanzania following a dramatic semifinal penalty defeat to Rines at UCU Stadium during the USSSA Ball Games in Mukono.
The match ended 0-0 in regular time, with Rines prevailing 4-2 in the shootout. Patricia Nakato, Justine Ayeraga, Edith Nakisega, and Shamirah Nakubirye scored for Rines, while Halima Mupyanga missed. Kawempe’s Doreen Kisaakye and Vanessa Namazzi converted, but misses from Tracy Nabatanzi and Shadia Nabirye sealed their exit.
Earlier, St Noa Girls dominated Latifah 3-0, with second-half goals from Dorah Nangobi, Grace Kawiino, and Teddy Namata, extending their reign as defending champions.
Boni Consilii advanced past Jinja Progressive Academy (Jipra) on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Jipra struck first in the opening minute, but Rinah Ariho equalized from the spot in the 28th minute, leading to a 5-4 shootout win for Boni Consilii.
Amus clinched the final spot with a 1-0 victory over Bukedea Comprehensive in an eastern region clash. Faith Akol’s goal—her fifth this season—proved decisive, marking Amus’s third win over Bukedea this campaign. Coach Frank Anyau highlighted the team’s focus despite fatigue.
A light-hearted touchline exchange between Bukedea manager Fred Katende and Amus director Patrick Isiagi entertained fans before full time.
With regional qualification settled, semifinals for the national title continue on Wednesday.
