Kampala Businessman Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Maid's Boyfriend

Police in Kampala are investigating a shooting that occurred at a businessman’s residence in Bunga, Makindye Division, on April 26. The incident led to the death of Kevin Atwizukire, the boyfriend of a housemaid identified as Joan Nelima, and Nelima herself sustained injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that Atwizukire visited Nelima at her employer’s home in Kalungu Zone. While the businessman was reportedly away, his gatekeeper alerted him to the presence of an unknown man at the servant’s quarters. The businessman returned home and went to confront the visitor.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, when the maid opened the door for the businessman, she was shot in the arm. Atwizukire, who was apparently attempting to escape, was then allegedly shot in the chest and died at the scene.
Investigators have visited the scene, collected statements, and recovered a pistol believed to be the weapon used, along with two cartridges. The businessman is currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station, facing preliminary charges of murder and attempted murder. The case file has been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for further legal advice.
