President Yoweri Museveni is expected to officially open a new, advanced cement factory in the Karamoja region of northeastern Uganda. The substantial investment, valued at $300 million (approximately 1.1 trillion Ugandan shillings), is a major development for the area.

The factory, identified as Yaobai Cement Uganda, is situated in the Moroto District. This venture represents a significant step forward for Uganda’s manufacturing capabilities, particularly within the cement industry.

Beyond bolstering cement production, this landmark project is anticipated to stimulate the economic potential of the Karamoja sub-region, which possesses abundant limestone reserves suitable for commercial use. The new plant will join existing cement producers like Tororo, Hima, Simba, and Kampala Cement.
