Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is undergoing a significant leadership overhaul as part of its commitment to ensuring a reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply. The company announced the appointment of new staff in several top management positions on Wednesday.
This latest reshuffle comes just days after the former managing director, Mr. Paul Mwesigwa, was sent on forced leave. Ms. Joselynne Rwabwogo Rwakakooko has stepped in as the acting managing director and has spearheaded these changes. She expressed confidence in the newly appointed team’s ability to “deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply that will shape our country’s socio-economic transformation.”
The newly appointed managers will serve in an acting capacity for an unspecified period. Among the key appointments, Sylver Hategekimana will lead Engineering and Technical Services, Isaac Katewanga will head Commercial Operations, and Samuel Omoding will manage Human Resources and Administration.
Further changes include Stephen Ilungole appointed as Head of Corporate and Stakeholders Affairs, Nickson Ahabwe as Head of Internal Audit, and Richard Opio as Head of Technology and Applications. Francis Ddamulira will take on the role of Manager Applications Officer, and Christine Atuhairwe will serve as Manager, Human Resource Officer-Business Partners.
According to Mr. Ilungole, these changes are a strategic realignment with the new acting managing director’s vision. He also clarified that the officers whose positions have been filled in an acting capacity remain employees of UEDCL.
