Archbishop Raphael P’Mony Wokorach of the Gulu Catholic Archdiocese has issued a strong warning to six newly ordained priests, urging them to resist the temptation of exploiting Christians through fraudulent means.

During the ordination ceremony at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Gulu City, Archbishop Wokorach emphasized that exploitation and manipulation are hallmarks of bad leadership, which the new priests must avoid. He stressed that their role is to serve, guide society, and walk with their congregants with a genuine heart.

The Archbishop also addressed the issue of absenteeism, a common complaint among communities regarding some priests who are reportedly only present for weekend masses. He implored the new priests to be actively involved in the lives of their parishioners, participating in various community activities to ensure their presence is felt and valued.

Families of the newly ordained were also advised against seeking financial support from the priests, acknowledging the sacrifices involved in their ministry. Archbishop Wokorach urged families to allow the priests to fully dedicate themselves to serving the church and the community.

This ordination brings the total number of diocesan priests serving under the Gulu Archdiocese to 92.
