Chelsea managed to end their frustrating six-game losing streak in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

Enzo Fernandez’s clever free-kick found the back of the net to level the score for the visitors. This point is a significant boost for caretaker manager Calum MacFarlane, marking his first success since taking the helm.

Liverpool had initially taken the lead through a spectacular strike from Ryan Gravenberch in the sixth minute. However, Chelsea showed improved spirit and organization compared to their recent performances.

Fernandez’s set-piece in the 35th minute ultimately leveled the match, with the ball evading everyone and finding the bottom corner. There was some confusion, as Liverpool’s goalkeeper appeared perhaps distracted by Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana’s miss-hit attempt at the ball.

Both teams had goals disallowed for offside, while Liverpool also hit the woodwork twice as they pushed for a late winner. Despite the draw, Liverpool remains in fourth place, boosting their Champions League qualification hopes, while Chelsea sits in ninth.

“I think the effort today was really good,” Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella told TNT Sports. “We aren’t happy because we wanted the three points, but we are happy that we showed we’re a really good team if we put in the effort and fight together.”

There were audible boos from the Anfield crowd at full-time, and also when manager Arne Slot substituted the promising 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha midway through the second half.
