Six individuals en route to a wedding ceremony have died, and three others were injured in a devastating road crash in Gomba District on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 5:00 AM in Lumonya village when a Toyota Hiace taxi, carrying passengers from Ssembabule to Nakasongola District, veered off the road.
According to SP Michael Kananura, the Public Relations Officer for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control due to excessive speeding, leading to the vehicle overturning several times.
Four passengers died at the scene, while two others passed away from their injuries while receiving medical attention. The three survivors were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police are continuing their investigation into the crash and working to identify all the victims. Authorities are urging all motorists to adhere to speed limits and prioritize road safety, as speeding remains a significant contributor to fatal accidents in the country.
