Vipers SC Drop Points, But Rivals Falter in Tight Uganda Premier League Title Race

Vipers SC were held to a 1-1 draw by URA, failing to extend their lead at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. Meanwhile, title rivals KCCA and Kitara couldn't capitalize, and SC Villa's draw further diminished their championship aspirations with only three games remaining. League leaders Vipers SC dropped crucial points at home, drawing 1-1 with URA at the St Mary’s Stadium on Friday, allowing their closest challengers to remain in the hunt for the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title.

URA took the lead in the 35th minute through Ronald Otti’s header from an Isma Mugulusi free-kick, capitalizing on a lapse in Vipers’ defensive marking. Vipers found an equalizer four minutes into the second half when Arafat Usama converted from close range, following up on a rebound after a header had struck the woodwork.

Despite mounting late pressure and introducing attacking reinforcements, Vipers could not secure a winning goal. This draw follows their previous stalemate with KCCA and keeps them on 60 points from 27 matches. They maintain a five-point advantage over second-placed KCCA.

Kitara FC, also in contention for the title, remains on 54 points with a game in hand. However, their title hopes suffered a setback with a 1-0 home defeat to Nec.

SC Villa’s already slim title ambitions took another hit as they were held to a goalless draw by BUL, leaving them with 52 points and a significantly tougher path to the championship.

In other fixtures, Express secured a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Buhimba United Saints with goals from Marvin Praise Wabuga and Marvin Nyanzi.
