Man Beats Friend to Death Over Missing Roasted Rat Meat in Kitgum
A dispute over a missing roasted rat has tragically ended in death in Kitgum District, with police arresting a man for allegedly assaulting his friend to the point of fatality. Tragedy struck in Kitgum District when a disagreement over food turned fatal. Police have apprehended a man suspected of beating his friend to death following an argument about roasted rat meat.
The incident reportedly began when the suspect discovered that one of his roasted rats had gone missing. This led to a heated exchange with his friend, which, according to police sources, escalated into a physical confrontation.
The victim, identified as Omony, sustained severe injuries during the altercation. He was rushed to Orom Health Centre for medical attention but was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following the victim’s death, the suspect was taken into custody. The body has been transferred to Namukora Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, while the suspect is currently being held at Kitgum Central Police Station.
Roasted rat meat is considered a delicacy and a valuable source of income for communities in Kitgum and Lamwo Districts. Individual rats are typically sold for between Shs 500 and Shs 1,000, depending on their size.
