Teenager Fatally Attacked After Wedding in Butaleja

A 16-year-old boy has been killed following an altercation that occurred after he attended a wedding party in Butaleja District, Eastern Uganda.
Ahamada Jarita, a resident of Kachonga Sub-county, was attacked around 11 pm on Saturday in Namaste Village. According to police, Jarita and his brother were on their way home from a marriage ceremony when they encountered a group of youths.
A misunderstanding is reported to have escalated into a violent assault on Jarita. His brother managed to reach relatives, who took him to Nabiganda Health Centre IV. Sadly, Ahamada succumbed to his injuries the following morning, May 10, 2026.
Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, IP Moses Mugwe, confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing, with witness statements being recorded and the deceased’s body sent for a postmortem examination at Mbale City Mortuary.
Police are urging the public to refrain from engaging in acts of violence. The 2025 Annual Crime Police report indicates that homicide cases, often driven by disputes, domestic violence, and mob justice, remain a concern in the country, with assault being a common method of murder.
