Residents of Makota Village in Jinja District were astonished when local leaders intervened in a peculiar domestic situation. Judith Babirye, 46, had been living with Steven Orwenyi for nearly 10 months, believing her former partner, Isaac Omoding, had passed away.
However, Omoding’s unexpected return on May 3, 2026, led to a complex living arrangement. Babirye informed both men and proposed that they coexist peacefully in her small home. This unconventional setup soon broke down, with Orwenyi expressing discomfort and accusing Babirye of theft and verbal abuse.
Babirye subsequently reported the matter to village leaders, who convened a mediation meeting. During the discussion, Orwenyi argued that he deserved compensation for the financial and material support he had provided to Babirye during their relationship, including his monthly earnings and the construction of a latrine.
After negotiations, the community members contributed Shs32,500 towards Orwenyi’s transport home, with Babirye agreeing to pay the remaining Shs100,000 within two months. Orwenyi then departed peacefully, wishing Omoding well. Omoding, in turn, pledged to support Babirye and her seven children.
Following the resolution, local leaders cautioned residents against engaging in multiple relationships, citing the potential for conflict and insecurity. This story was first reported by the Daily Monitor.
