Michael Mukwaya, widely known as Mike Wine, has identified Bobi Wine and Jose Chameleone as key architects of the Ugandan music scene’s development. He argues that their influence extends beyond their personal careers to encompass the nurturing and promotion of numerous younger talents.
According to Mike Wine, the current vibrancy and strength of the industry can be largely attributed to the foundational work of these two veteran artists. “The two artistes who have made many musicians and boosted talent are Jose Chameleone and Bobi Wine. They have had a huge impact on the entire industry,” Mike Wine stated.
Mike Wine specifically mentioned that Bobi Wine played a role in fostering the careers of artists including himself, Eddy Kenzo, Sizza Man, Buchaman, Toolman, Zex Bilangilangi, Dax Vibez, and Maro. Similarly, Jose Chameleone has been credited with mentoring and supporting acts like King Saha, Pallaso, and the late Mowzey Radio alongside Weasel.
He emphasized that their dedication to investing in and guiding new artists has been crucial in shaping the contemporary musical landscape in Uganda, significantly contributing to its overall growth.
