The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has implemented an immediate ban on on-street parking along significant stretches of Kampala and Jinja Roads, specifically between Kitgum House and the Kampala-Entebbe Road junction.

This measure is intended to significantly improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and boost overall mobility within the bustling Central Business District (CBD).

Motorists are now advised to seek parking at designated alternative locations, including Station Road, Dewinton Road, Said Barre, and Nkrumah Road. Additionally, KCCA encourages the use of private parking facilities available within commercial buildings.

The affected zone is a vital hub for businesses, including financial institutions, restaurants, and electronics vendors. The ban presents a challenge for businesses and their clients accustomed to on-street parking for loading and offloading, especially in older buildings lacking dedicated private parking.

On-street parking was initially introduced in 1997 as a source of revenue for the city and was managed by different entities over the years, most recently by Multiplex Limited.

KCCA asserts that this decision is crucial for creating a more efficient urban environment by removing stationary vehicles from major routes, thereby addressing persistent traffic bottlenecks.
