Kagadi District is gripped by outrage following the death of Ibrahim Turyamureba, a 43-year-old retired UPDF soldier, who passed away after an alleged brutal raid by individuals identified as police officers. The incident occurred on the night of May 13, 2026, at a local cinema hall in Kamusegu Trading Centre where residents had gathered to watch a Manchester City football match.

Eyewitnesses claim that approximately 12 officers, dressed in police uniforms and masks, arrived in a police vehicle and began indiscriminately beating the fans. The officers are reported to have used electric wires, sticks, and canes, blocking the entrance to the hall. Some residents also allege that the officers robbed them of money.

Ibrahim Turyamureba was found dead in his rented house the following morning, May 14, 2026. Locals strongly suspect that he died from severe internal injuries sustained during the alleged assault. Pieces of broken electric wire, purportedly used in the beating, were reportedly recovered at the scene.

Several other individuals have come forward with accusations of assault and robbery during the same incident. John Bright, a local leader, stated he was beaten and robbed of Shs640,000. Another resident, Godfrey Tusabe, recounted being robbed and witnessing others being severely beaten, particularly those who couldn’t produce money.

Local authorities have visited the scene and taken Turyamureba’s body to Kagadi General Hospital for a postmortem. However, the Officer-in-Charge of Bwikara Police Post denied knowledge of any such police operation. The Albertine South Regional Police spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, dismissed the allegations, stating that the police do not attack or rob citizens and urged those with complaints to report to regional headquarters.

Residents are demanding a thorough investigation into the incident, which has left the community in shock and fear, questioning the conduct of the security forces. Turyamureba’s body awaits a postmortem examination as an investigation into the alleged raid is reportedly underway.
