Six people are facing charges related to the death of a Congolese national who died in police custody in Kisoro District.
The suspects, comprising two civilians and four police officers, appeared before the Kisoro Chief Magistrate’s Court on May 15, 2026.
Civilians Hakizimana Mpumuseni and Nsabimana John Bosco have been charged with murder. The prosecution alleges they caused the death of the Congolese national, Uwimana Ntirenganya, on May 7, 2026, in the Nyabwishenya Sub-county area.
The four police officers – Musabyimana Wycliffe, Yebuze Morris, Kizito Appeti, and Ndagijimana Emmanuel – face charges of being accessories after the fact to murder. They are accused of aiding the civilians to evade punishment after the alleged murder.
Chief Magistrate Patrick Bamuhiga stated that the court lacks jurisdiction to take the suspects’ pleas and noted that investigations are ongoing.
All six individuals have been remanded to Kisoro Government Prison until May 28, 2026, when the case will be mentioned again.
