Baby Abducted from Kagadi General Hospital; Police Launch Manhunt

A distressing incident has occurred at Kagadi General Hospital, where a two-month-old baby has reportedly been abducted. The baby’s mother, Winnie Tumwebaze, was at the hospital attending to another sick child when an unknown woman offered to help carry her infant.

According to Tumwebaze, she briefly handed over her baby to the woman while she attended to the medical dispensing area. When she returned, both the woman and her child were gone. Eyewitnesses confirmed the woman’s initial helpful demeanor and her subsequent claim of stepping out to buy porridge before vanishing.

The baby’s father, Calleb Atuhiire, was alerted to the situation and joined hospital staff, police, and other residents in a search for the child and the suspect.

Komuhangi, an eyewitness, recounted the suspect’s actions, noting she told others the mother was still queuing for medicine and that she was going to buy porridge, but never returned.

Adding a concerning layer, a local resident believes she recognizes the suspect, identifying her as coming from Kamusegu Village. This resident also alleged that the same woman was involved in a previous attempted child theft in the area, where she was reportedly apprehended by locals.

Hospital administrator Simon Peter confirmed that the theft was reported and that investigations are actively underway in conjunction with Kagadi Police to locate the missing infant and apprehend the perpetrator. A search team, including the baby’s father and a resident who claims to know the suspect, has already traveled to Kamusegu Village.
