11th Parliament: 270 MPs Sworn In as New Legislative Session Approaches

The swearing-in ceremony for the 11th Parliament continued with vigor on its second day, Thursday, May 14, 2026, as 86 Members-elect took their oaths. This brings the cumulative total of sworn Members to 270, nearing the completion of the process which spans three days.
The proceedings commenced with national anthems and prayers, followed by the first Member-elect stepping forward for the oath. Despite a light morning drizzle, the atmosphere remained vibrant, punctuated by music and drumming.
Among the prominent figures sworn in were Minister of State for Finance (Microfinance) Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune (NRM, Kyotera County), Minister in the Office of the President, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi (NRM, Rujumbura County), and former Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde (NRM, Mawokota North), who makes a return to Parliament.
Other notable individuals taking their oaths included Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze (NRM, Kibale East County), Amos Kankunda Kibwika (NRM, Rwampara County), Stephen Kangwagye (Independent, Bukanga County), Laura Kanushu (NRM, representing Persons with Disabilities), and UPDF representatives James Kinalwa and Samuel Kavuma.
The legislative body is set to resume its session in the afternoon after a brief recess called by the Clerk, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to conclude on Friday, May 15, 2026.
