The extensive swearing-in process for Uganda’s Members of Parliament wrapped up on Friday, May 17, 2026, marking the third and final day of the solemn occasion. The morning session witnessed 83 newly elected representatives taking their oaths at the Parliament Building.
Notable figures among those sworn in included Hon. Teddy Nambooze of the National Unity Platform (NUP) for Mpigi district woman representative, who pledged allegiance to the Republic of Uganda and commitment to serve Parliament faithfully. Others taking the oath were Hon. Sylvia Nayebale (NRM, Gomba), Minister of Defence Hon. Marksons Jacob Oboth (NRM, West Budama Central), Persis Princess Namuganza (Ind., Bukono County), UPDF representatives Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding and Col. Christine Nekesa, Workers representative Hon. Margaret Namubiru Rwabushaija (Ind.), and former Government Media Centre ED Hon. Ofwono Opondo P’Odel (NRM, Older Persons/Eastern).
The three-day exercise, which commenced on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, has seen a total of 441 Members of Parliament officially sworn in, preparing them to officially commence their legislative duties.
