A domestic dispute turned deadly in Mubende District, resulting in the arrest of a 32-year-old man accused of murdering his wife, Annet Turyahabwe, 30. Police report that the incident occurred on Sunday morning within the couple’s residence in the workers’ quarters of their employer’s home.

According to Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, the suspect allegedly attacked Turyahabwe with a panga after she refused his demand for intimacy, citing fatigue from their day’s labor. The refusal reportedly escalated into an argument where the suspect accused his wife of infidelity.

The couple worked as casual laborers for Mr. Hassan Turyatemba. Their daughter is credited with raising the alarm after hearing her mother’s cries, alerting Mr. Turyatemba, who discovered the victim. Neighbors and local leaders assisted in apprehending the suspect before he was handed over to Kibalinga Police.

Police have registered a murder case and are continuing their investigation. Evidence, including a suspected bloody panga, has been collected, and witness statements are being recorded. The deceased’s body has been sent for a postmortem examination.

This incident highlights a concerning trend in domestic violence. The 2025 Annual Crime Police Report indicated a 13.7% increase in murders resulting from domestic violence, with Mubende being among the districts with the highest reported cases.
