A joint security task force has seized a luxury 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan, valued at approximately Shs3.4 billion, from the Kigo residence of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among. The operation, involving the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), UPDF, and intelligence agencies, is part of an ongoing probe into allegations of corruption, money laundering, and illicit enrichment.
The raid on Among’s Kigo property followed an extensive 16-hour search of her Nakasero home. The Rolls-Royce, imported under the Anita Foundation Limited, had previously drawn public scrutiny and accusations of ostentatious wealth, particularly following corruption sanctions against Among by the UK government.
While Among had previously stated the vehicle was a personal gift funded by her businesses and associates, leaked customs documents suggested significant undeclared payments for its clearance. Investigators also reportedly seized Among’s mobile devices for forensic analysis as they seek evidence connecting her assets to illicit activities.
The security operation has had immediate political repercussions, with Anita Among announcing her withdrawal from the speakership race for the 12th Parliament, citing a desire to “maintain harmony and clarity.” She pledged to cooperate with all ongoing state investigations.
The CID has not yet released official details of the evidence collected, but the high-profile seizure underscores a determined stance by the authorities in addressing high-level corruption.
