Ugandans are keenly observing the nation’s investigative institutions as a highly sensitive corruption probe into Parliament Speaker Anita Among and her husband, Moses Magogo, continues to unfold. The investigation has seen properties belonging to the couple, including Speaker Among’s Kigo residence and Nakasero mansion, subjected to prolonged searches by security operatives.

Late Monday, authorities impounded luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce and a Range Rover, from the Kigo property and transported them to police headquarters. The vehicles were seen being escorted through Kampala, with some bystanders cheering and calling for the law to be applied fully.

While Magogo was reportedly seen at the Kigo residence interacting with investigators, Speaker Among has remained out of the public eye since the probe began over the weekend. Her only public statement was posted on her X account, announcing her withdrawal from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament, citing “wide consultations and deep introspection.”

The probe is reportedly part of an anti-corruption drive, “Maliza Ufisadi,” led by the first son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, under President Museveni’s direction. The investigation’s scope appears to be widening, with reports of a shift in focus to another property in Ntinda and potential extensions to family estates in eastern Uganda.

In a related development, journalists from Nation Media Group (NMG) were granted access to Parliament after nearly a year of being barred, a restriction that had drawn criticism from press freedom advocates.

As investigations continue and authorities begin to withdraw from the Kigo residence, the country awaits Speaker Among’s first public appearance since the probe’s inception. This situation unfolds as Uganda prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, adding another layer of national attention to the unfolding events.
