Kasambya County Member of Parliament Daudi Kabanda has recently garnered considerable attention for his authoritative pronouncements on the nation’s political landscape, particularly concerning parliamentary leadership and alliances.
His role has become increasingly prominent, with recent statements from him and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), which he leads as Secretary General, announcing endorsements for parliamentary positions. These declarations carry weight, amplified by endorsements from high-ranking figures such as the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba.
Kabanda’s journey to this influential position is a remarkable ascent. Born in 1990, his early life was marked by challenges, including the loss of his father and financial struggles that led to him dropping out of school. He began as an active radio caller, using the moniker “General Daudi Kabanda,” which caught the attention of former MP Sam Kutesa, leading to an opportunity at Mbabule FM.
Despite setbacks, Kabanda pursued his education while working, eventually completing secondary school and entering youth politics. He rose through the ranks to national council secretary before relocating to Kampala. By 2021, he successfully contested and won the seat for Kasambya County MP.
His political trajectory accelerated after joining the MK Movement in 2022, which later transitioned into the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). As PLU’s Secretary General, Kabanda has been instrumental in announcing leadership appointments across the country and spearheading public demonstrations, including protests against the German Ambassador and engagement in parliamentary leadership debates. His constituents offer mixed reviews, with some praising his development efforts in the constituency and others labeling him an opportunist.
