The Inspector General of Government (IGG) is expanding its inquiry into former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, now focusing on her close circle of associates. Individuals believed to have acted as intermediaries in the alleged concealment and movement of wealth are reportedly under scrutiny.
Sources indicate that the IGG’s investigation now includes MPs, personal assistants, and parliamentary staff who are considered persons of interest. This development follows a recent meeting between President Museveni and the IGG, Justice Aisha Nalule Batala, where the probe’s direction was discussed. President Museveni reportedly tasked the IGG with a thorough examination of Ms Among’s declared assets versus her known properties and lifestyle.
The IGG has reportedly assigned at least four senior officers to lead the expanded investigation. This comes in the wake of coordinated searches at Ms Among’s residences, where luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce valued at approximately Shs3.4 billion and a customized Range Rover worth over Shs1 billion, were reportedly impounded. Ms Among’s office at Parliament was also searched.
The intensified investigation aligns with President Museveni’s recent anti-corruption declarations, signaling a renewed focus on tackling graft within the administration.
