Authorities in Apac District are on the hunt for a parent after a shocking discovery of a toddler alive in a pit latrine within a school compound. The incident occurred on Sunday at Apac Pride Nursery and Primary School.

The harrowing find was made by the school watchman, Brian Eling, who heard a baby crying from the latrine around 3 pm. Upon investigation, he found a young girl, estimated to be less than a year old, inside the pit.

Mr. Eling promptly alerted the Apac Central Police Station. Officers arrived at the scene, successfully rescued the child, and began gathering evidence. Initial reports from residents suggest the child may have been brought to the area from elsewhere, as she was not recognized by locals.

“We are suspecting that the mother of this kid could have brought her from far with the intention of killing her but by God’s grace she survived,” stated local resident Rose Ogwal, reflecting a sentiment of disbelief and gratitude.

Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been registered. He further stated that investigations are underway to identify the parent or guardian responsible for abandoning the infant. While the exact motive remains unclear, police are considering potential causes such as domestic violence or severe child neglect.

The rescued toddler was immediately transported to Apac Hospital for medical examination and care. The police continue their efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident and apprehend the individual responsible.
