Uganda’s Cricket Cranes experienced their first setback on their Mumbai tour, succumbing to a one-wicket defeat against the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in a tightly contested T20 match. The loss came after a series of dropped catches and a controversial umpiring decision that allowed Mumbai all-rounder Akash Parkar to secure the win for the Falcons.

The Cricket Cranes struggled with the bat on a difficult pitch, being bowled out for 112 in just 17.2 overs. The innings was in early trouble at 10 for two, but a valiant 52 off 30 balls from former U-19 captain Gerald Olipa provided a glimmer of hope and a defendable total.

In response, Uganda’s bowlers put in a stellar effort, reducing the Falcons from a comfortable 68 for four to a precarious 98 for nine. Henry Ssenyondo, Juma Miyaji, Cosmas Kyewuta, and Joseph Baguma all claimed two wickets each, bringing the Cranes to the brink of an unlikely victory.

However, Akash Parkar, who was controversially given not out on a caught-behind appeal, remained steadfast and steered the Falcons to victory with an unbeaten 36. Coach Steve Tikolo lamented the missed opportunities in the field, stating, “Catches win matches.” Captain Fred Achelam acknowledged the team’s strong fight against experienced domestic players but admitted that “tiny moments” decided the outcome.

The defeat marks the end of Uganda’s unbeaten run after their dominant 4-0 series win against MCA Colts XI in the preceding 50-over matches. The team now looks to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming T20 fixture against MCA Colts XI.
