Kovacevic lifts SC Villa's spirits ahead of Uganda Cup final

SC Villa is brimming with confidence as they head into the Stanbic Uganda Cup final against Kitara this Saturday. Coach Zeljko Kovacevic has infused a renewed sense of belief within the squad, highlighted by their impressive performances towards the end of the Uganda Premier League season.

Despite narrowly missing out on the league title, Villa was widely praised for playing some of the most attractive and tactically sound football in the division. Their third-place finish, just behind champions Vipers, underscored their consistency and resurgence under Kovacevic.

Recent emphatic victories, including a 2-1 win over UPDF with goals from Isaac Mpagi and Patrick Kakande, have further bolstered the confidence of the Villa faithful. This momentum is crucial as they eye a record-equalling tenth Uganda Cup trophy and a coveted spot in the Caf Confederation Cup.

“We wanted to win the last game and go into the final with a good feeling,” Kovacevic stated after the UPDF match. “It prepared us for the final cup game against Kitara and we will try to win and go for Africa because that is our target.”

Kovacevic acknowledges that there is still room for improvement, estimating about 40 percent development is needed. However, he emphasizes the competitive nature of Ugandan football and promises a determined fight against Kitara, a team he respects. The club’s strong league finish has restored optimism, demonstrating their return to prominence.

The final against Kitara is scheduled for Saturday at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru. This match presents a significant opportunity for SC Villa to secure silverware and continental qualification, capping off a season of significant progress.
