A disturbing incident unfolded in Kween district, northern Uganda, where authorities have arrested Agnes Cheptoyek on suspicion of attempting to bury her newborn child alive. The alleged act took place in Kapkureri ward, Kapnarok town council.

Reports indicate that Cheptoyek delivered the baby at her home on Monday morning. However, later that evening, concerned residents were drawn to a nearby banana plantation by the sound of a baby crying. Upon investigation, they discovered the infant alive and rescued them.

Witnesses state that Cheptoyek attempted to flee the scene as residents approached, despite experiencing significant bleeding from the recent delivery. She reportedly ran approximately 500 meters before collapsing and being apprehended by the community.

The suspect is currently under police guard and receiving medical attention at Kapchorwa hospital. Uganda Police, through Sipi regional spokesperson Fredmark Chesang, stated that Cheptoyek will be interrogated to determine the motive behind her alleged actions once she has recovered. A mental health assessment will also be conducted to ascertain her state of mind.

This harrowing event has raised significant questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
