Kampala’s newly elected Lord Mayor, Ronald Balimwezo, has made significant appointments to his executive committee, placing several women in key leadership roles. Faridah Nakabugo, a councillor representing Lubaga II and a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been elevated to the position of Deputy Lord Mayor.
In addition to her deputy role, Nakabugo has been appointed as the secretary for administration and human resources. This dual responsibility situates her at the heart of the city’s operational management and staffing structure.
Mayor Balimwezo unveiled a four-member executive committee aimed at shaping the administration’s agenda for service delivery and urban development in the capital. The committee includes Shamim Nambasa (Kawempe II) as secretary for finance, responsible for budgeting and fiscal planning. Dr. Judith Nalukwago (Makindye III) will serve as secretary for social services, overseeing health, education, and community welfare programs.
Rounding out the key appointments is Godfrey Luyombya (Nakawa II), who takes on the role of secretary for civil works and physical planning, focusing on infrastructure and urban development. Balimwezo urged the new appointees to champion unity, accountability, and inclusive leadership.
“We must serve all people of Kampala regardless of their political affiliation; leadership is about improving lives and delivering services to the citizens,” stated Mayor Balimwezo. These appointments come at a critical juncture as Kampala grapples with challenges in infrastructure, service provision, and overall urban management.
