Chef Gadson’s unique vision of a pork-only restaurant in midtown Kampala, The Pork Planet, has proven to be a resounding success since its inception in October 2021. While the food offerings, particularly the hearty pork katogo, have always been a highlight, the restaurant’s initial small size presented a significant challenge to profitability.

Recognizing the limitations, Gadson seized an opportunity to expand when an adjacent space became available. This expansion involved removing a non-permanent partition, undertaking interior renovations, and acquiring new furnishings and decor. The transformation has more than doubled the dining capacity, creating a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

In addition to the physical expansion, The Pork Planet has introduced new features to attract a wider clientele. “Bucket Night” every Friday and Saturday offers a special deal on beers, and the restaurant is considering expanding its beverage menu to include cocktails and mocktails. These additions, coupled with the improved ambiance and signage, create a significantly enhanced dining experience.

The menu remains focused on pork, with popular dishes like the Kikalayi special and the signature Pork Katogo, which remains a budget-friendly favorite. Accompaniments include fried rice, cassava, Irish potatoes, and greens. Service is noted as quick and efficient, contributing to the restaurant’s clean and tidy presentation. Chef Gadson’s hands-on approach ensures consistent quality and smooth operations.

This expansion has transformed The Pork Planet from a tiny establishment into a more robust dining destination, solidifying its reputation for delicious pork dishes and a welcoming environment. It’s a testament to Gadson’s foresight and dedication to his culinary concept.
