President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has bid farewell to Matthias Schauer, the Ambassador of Germany to Uganda, at State House, Entebbe. Ambassador Schauer, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Katharina Schauer, was thanked by the President for his service and wished success in his future endeavors.

Ambassador Schauer, who has served in Uganda for nearly six years since July 2020, engaged with President Museveni on the subject of the country’s sovereignty law. The President emphasized the necessity for nations to manage their own affairs without external interference, citing historical instances like the Iddi Amin coup, which he stated was influenced by foreign powers.

“Leave us alone, let us make our own mistakes and we shall learn from our own mistakes,” President Museveni asserted, highlighting that the law was a response to ongoing attempts by foreigners to meddle in Uganda’s politics.

Ambassador Schauer congratulated President Museveni on his re-election and expressed optimism for Uganda’s future, noting the warmth and welcoming nature of the Ugandan people. He shared a personal experience of donating blood at Nakasero Hospital, suggesting that Germany could learn from Uganda’s practices in this regard.

The outgoing Ambassador also commended Uganda’s preparedness in handling health crises like Ebola outbreaks. He mentioned that his tenure in Uganda would mark his retirement at the age of 66. Mrs. Schauer added that Uganda would hold a special place in their hearts, and they would continue to pray for the nation.
