Buganda Kingdom has officially announced and welcomed Ceaser Buyondo Miti as the new leader of the Kasimba Clan. Miti steps into the role following the unexpected death of his predecessor, David Kabazi Ssempuuma, earlier this week.

The announcement was made at Bulange Mengo, where Buganda’s Katikkiro (Prime Minister), Charles Peter Mayiga, expressed satisfaction with the clan’s prompt selection of a successor. Mayiga stressed the importance of clan leadership within Buganda, referring to clans as a crucial pillar connecting the Kabaka (King) to his subjects and upholding the kingdom’s cultural identity.

“In our culture, it is crucial that a clan has a leader who connects it to the head of all clan leaders, who is the Kabaka of Buganda,” stated Mayiga. He further elaborated that the kingdom’s strength relies on three inseparable pillars: the royal family, the clans, and the administration. He warned that any weakening of these pillars could destabilize the kingdom, emphasizing that clan systems are fundamental to Buganda’s norms and traditions.

The Katikkiro also noted that Buganda’s culture disallows prolonged leadership vacuums. Traditional procedures dictate that a successor is chosen shortly after a leader’s passing, following specific clan customs. Once a successor is identified and approved by the Katikkiro and the Kabaka, the kingdom can proceed with final burial rites for the deceased leader.

Mayiga urged the new Kasimba Clan head to lead with integrity and patience, reminding him that his authority originates from the Kabaka and has historical roots dating back to Kintu’s reign. Meanwhile, the Kasimba Clan Prime Minister, Edward Brown Lwanga, detailed the circumstances surrounding Ssempuuma’s passing, which involved complications from high blood pressure.

Following traditional protocols, Buyondo Miti, the third-born son of the late leader, was selected. In his acceptance speech, Miti conveyed his gratitude to the clan members and the kingdom’s leadership, expressing confidence that his late father would approve of the demonstrated unity.
