A medical officer at Amudat Hospital is currently in police custody following allegations of theft of government-procured medical supplies. The 42-year-old Anaesthetic Officer was apprehended on Friday at the hospital’s staff quarters after an operation based on intelligence reports.

During a search of the suspect’s residence, police discovered a significant quantity of medical items. Among the recovered supplies were eight bottles of Sodium Chloride, one bottle of Ringer’s Lactate, a box of Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test kits, a box of surgical gloves, twenty vials of Ceftriaxone injection, and two rolls of Zinc Oxide.

The investigation was reportedly triggered when hospital staff observed the suspect leaving the facility carrying a sack, which raised suspicions. A subsequent search of his home led to the discovery of the aforementioned medical supplies, culminating in his arrest.

Moroto Region Police Spokesperson, Mr. Mike Longole, confirmed the incident, stating that a case of theft of government medicine has been officially registered at Amudat Central Police Station. The suspect is being held at the station while police work to determine the total value of the stolen items. The case file is being prepared for submission to the Attorney General for further legal action.
